On June 10, 2009 Art will discuss point of view (View Webinar recording now). Art will show how the placement of the camera and photographer can optimize the visual impact of an image. A photograph of elephants taken at ground level has a different effect than one taken from the air; one places the animals in context and creates immediacy while the aerial emphasizes pattern.

On July 6, 2009 Art will discuss focal lengths. Art uses wide-angle and telephoto lenses to intensify his compositions and tell his stories, virtually shunning "normal" lenses. A long lens can extract a beautiful fragment from an undistinguished landscape or blur a background to highlight the primary subject. A wild angle can capture foreground or distort a subject, adding a sense of involvement or provide distance.

On October 13, 2009 Art will discuss light. Art displays his favorite shots from around the world to show how the quality and angle of light affect compositions. Everyone loves the magic light of dawn and dusk, but hard sidelight creates drama, reflected light can make a subject glow, and bright overcast makes colors pop. The quality and angle of light defines the character of each image more than any other factor.
